J’ai tué ma mère / I Killed My Mother (2009)

This film is the first length film by Xavier Dolan, who wrote the screenplay at 16 years. He has won numerous awards, including the Cannes Festival Directors' Fortnight.

Synopsis: Hubert Minel does not like his mother. At the age of 17, he gauges her with contempt, seeing only her tacky sweaters, her kitsch decoration and the crumbs of bread that lodge at the corners of her lips when she eats loudly. Beyond these irritating surfaces, there is also manipulation and guilt, mechanisms dear to her genitor. Confused by this love-hate relationship that obsesses him more and more, Hubert is lost in the meanders of a marginal and typical adolescence - artistic discoveries, illicit experiences, openness to friendship, sex and ostracism - gnawed by the hatred he feels towards a woman who he nevertheless loved.

Heartbeats / Les amours imaginaires (2010)

It is the second length film by Xavier Dolan, presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 2010.

Synopsis: Francis and Marie, two friends, fall in love with the same person. Their trio will quickly turn into an unhealthy relationship where everyone will try to interpret in his own way the words and gestures of the one he loves...

Mommy (2014)

Synopsis: A single-parent woman inherits the guardianship of her son, an impulsive and violent ADHD teenager. At the heart of their excitements and difficulties, they try to make ends meet, especially thanks to the unexpected help of the enigmatic neighbor, Kyla. All three of them return to a form of equilibrium and soon, hope.

Just the End of the World (2016)

Grand Prix of the Cannes Film Festival 2016. With Nathalie Baye, Marion Cotillard, Gaspard Ulliel and Vincent Cassel.

Synopsis: After twelve years of absence, a writer returns to his native village to announce to his family his approaching death. This is the reunion with the family circle where we say love that one carries through the eternal strife and where one speaks in spite of the rancor which speaks in the name of doubt and solitude.
