Pierre Boulez is one of the most famous compositors of contemporary music and of the most popular French conductors of our time. Former student of Olivier Messiaen at Paris Conservatory, serialism devotee, his career, which was sometimes tumultuous, his talent, his encounters with major artists as Stravinsky, Claudel or Miró, led him to prestigious positions and to a worldwide fame. He was notably appointed head of the BBC Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic and ran the Institute for Research and Coordination Acoustic / Music (IRCAM) when it was first created. Many awards, as the Praemium Imperiale, were given to him in reward of his genius and showed his influence on contemporary music. Sometimes a controversial essayist, Pierre Boulez never stopped to compose, to think the music while trying to magnify it. His ninetieth birthday is an opportunity to celebrate this exceptional artist.
